Product Care for Items In Contact with Food
CUTTING BOARDS (BREAD BOARDS AND CHEESE BOARDS), WOODEN BOWLS, MORTAR & PESTLES

These hand-crafted wooden products have been sealed and finished with a blend of food grade mineral oil and beeswax. It is natural that the finish will need to be replenished occasionally in order to maintain the product's moisture resistance and visual appearance.

With proper care, your board or bowl should provide many years of service and will maintain it looks.

Please follow these steps to sterilize and maintain a good finish:

-   After use, clean with a damp cloth.

-   Oil periodically with food grade mineral oil which is available from most drug stores. If you use the item every day, it is suggested to oil once per month.

-   Keep boards and bowls free of food-borne bacteria by sprinkling coarse salt over  the surface once per month then rub with either lemon juice or vinegar to sterilize. Rinse with warm water and dry immediately.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES wash your board or bowl in a dishwasher, and do not leave to steep in water! Either action will result in warping, splitting, discoloration and may even result in the glue breaking down.

PEPPER MILLS AND SALT SHAKERS

The hand-crafted pepper mills and salt shakers are sanded and finished on the outside with a woodturner's polish. The inside is unfinished and so no finish will come into contact with salt or pepper. There are no specific care instructions for these items. If cleaning is required, please wash in warm soapy water, rinse with water and dry immediately.

GARLIC MASHERS, MOJITO MUDDLERS AND SPIRTLES (SCOTTISH PORRIDGE STIRRERS)

These items do not have a finish as they are intended to come into direct contact with liquids. Please clean them by washing in warm soapy water and dry immediately.

Even though these items are made from a single piece of wood, it is advisable not to wash them in the dishwasher or to leave them soaking in water. As with any wooden utensil, prolonged contact with steam or water may result in warping, cracking and/or discoloration.
